Members of the United Church of Canada (UCC), the country’s largest Protestant denomination, voted to affirm a motion supporting a boycott of goods produced in Jewish communities in Judea, Samaria and east Jerusalem, The Toronto Star reported.

The motion was one of several recommended by a report released by a church working group in May. Along with calling on church hierarchy to accept a comprehensive boycott, the report said that “the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territory” is a major challenge to a two-state solution in the Middle East.

HOW YOU CAN HELP

The Jewish community in Canada is outraged by this action, as should all decent people around the world. Simon Fogel, CEO of Canada’s Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs said that “it is beyond comprehension that the United Church would choose to so skew a commentary on the conflict and come out with so one-sided an approach.”

Join us in telling the United Church of Canada to reject any boycott of Israeli products. One-sided approaches will only serve to foster animosity and ill-will. We should support positive initiatives to advance peace, reconciliation, and prosperity in the Holy Land – for the benefit of all of its residents.

Send an email to the General Secretary of the United Church of Canada. Let them know that boycotts are unacceptable:

At a time when Christians are being persecuted by various authoritarian regimes, the United Church of Canada is astonishingly considering a boycott of Israeli settlements.

Sign this petition and urge the United Church to stand up for real peace – and oppose a boycott of the only democracy in the Middle East!
