According to an IDF spokesperson, “Civilians in Israel’s northern region faced rocket fire from Southern Lebanon.” Of the four rockets fired, two landed in residential areas, with one damaging property and cars in the city of Acre and the second landing in Kibbutz Gesher Haziv. No casualties were reported. Israel’s Iron Dome missile defense system intercepted a third rocket.

Israel National News reported that Israel responded to the attack with an airstrike targeting a terror base south of Beirut.

In response to the attack, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said, “We are operating on all fronts, in the north and south, in order to protect the citizens of Israel from these attacks…we are using a variety of measures – of both defense and prevention – and we are operating in a responsible manner. Our policy is clear: to protect and also to prevent…anyone who hurts us, and anyone who tries to hurt us, must know that we will hit him.”

The Times of Israel reported, “Dozens of elderly Holocaust survivors, in a facility in the Acre area, came very close to being hit by one of the four Katyusha rockets fired into Israel from southern Lebanon on Thursday afternoon. The survivors, who live in a facility comprising several buildings in the area, heard sirens wailing ahead of the rocket attack, but were unable to reach bomb shelters before the rocket struck.”

Israel’s Defense Minister Moshe Yaalon warned, “The state of Israel sees the government of Lebanon as responsible for what happens in its territory… We are taking the rocket fire toward Israel yesterday very seriously.”

Lieutenant Colonel Peter Lerner, IDF spokesperson said that this attack against Israel “reinforces the threat faced by the civilians of Israel on all fronts. Such act of aggression is a clear attempt to target and terrorize the civilian communities of northern Israel, a situation that would not be tolerated anywhere else in the world. The IDF will continue to operate against those who seek to harm the civilians of this country.”
