Forest in Beersheva to Memorialize Newtown Massacre

Over 2,000 people have donated money to plant a forest of over 3,000 trees in Be'ersheva in order to honor the victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary School Massacre. The trees will be part of the Be'ersheva River Park, a 1,700 acre environmental area being constructed by the Jewish National Fund in the Negev's provincial capital city.

The idea to plant trees in Israel in order to commemorate the young victims of the Newtown Massacre came from Veronique Pozner, the mother of the youngest and only Jewish victim, Noah. Marcie Natan of Hadassah declared, "Everybody was so affected by the massacre and wanted to do something to express their solidarity with the families.

Enlivex Innovation Leads to Effective New Cancer Treatment

Previously, graft-versus-host disease was a main concern in receiving bone marrow transplants for cancer patients. The disease develops when the immune system of the grafted bone marrow causes an attack against the recipient's organs, including primarily the liver, intestines, and skin. Estimates claim that as many as 70 percent of patients develop graft verses host disease, which can be fatal if it reaches high grades, upon receiving bone marrow transplants.

Israeli Medical Clown Brings Smiles to Kids in Nepal!

A 36-year-old Israeli named David Barashi is a professional medical clown who travels around the world cheering up ill children. He previously worked with orphans in Ethiopia and tsunami survivors in Asia. He holds a degree in medical clowning from Haifa University.

Presently, Barashi is in Nepal working with doctors and nurses there to help cheer up sick Nepalese children before they head into surgery as part of a program run by the Israeli Embassy, Arutz Sheva reported.

Nearly 18,000 Jews Moved to Israel in 2012

Within the past year, almost 18,000 Jews made aliyah to Israel. Out of this number, twenty percent were from Russia; seventeen percent were from the United States; and fourteen percent were from Ethiopia.

Some 2,030 Jews also made aliyah from the Ukraine, while 1,853 Jews made aliyah from France. Jews also made aliyah from smaller countries, such as Honduras, Madagascar, the Dominican Republic, Monaco, and Andorra.
