Remembering the Fogels
The Shomron community of Itamar marked the first anniversary of the brutal murder of five members of the Fogel family by Arab terrorists.
Rabbi Ehud (Udi) Fogel, his wife Ruth, 11-year-old Yoav, four-year-old Elad, and three-month-old Hadas were stabbed to death by terrorists who entered their home on Friday night, March 11, 2011, and mercilessly killed them.
To commemorate the day, a Beit Midrash [study hall] called Mishkan Ehud was dedicated in memory of Udi Fogel, in Itamar. Among the speakers at the dedication ceremony were Knesset Speaker Reuven Rivlin (Likud), Transportation Minister Yisrael Katz (Likud) and MK Uri Ariel (National Union).

PURIM: Turning Sadness into Joy!
The festive holiday of Purim commemorates Israel’s salvation from extermination by the mighty Persian Empire, some 2500 years ago. Jews in Israel and all over the world celebrate Purim on the 14th day of Adar (this year March 8th) as a time of “Light, Gladness, Joy and Honor for the Jewish people” (Esther 8:16).
Purim is a classic story of deep-rooted anti-semitism, pitting a powerful ruler (King Ahasuerus) and his vicious, arrogant advisor (Haman) against the Nation of Israel. Plans were drawn up for the “final solution” – wiping the Jews off the face of the earth. The word ”Purim” means lottery – referring to the method used to determine the fateful day set aside for the annihilation of the Jews.

Living Torah: Zachor- Remember the Enemies
This Shabbat, not one, but two Torah scrolls are removed from the Holy Ark. This is because, in addition to the weekly Torah portion, which is Tetzaveh (Exodus 27:20 – 30:10), we then read an additional portion known as “Zachor,” meaning “to remember.”
This additional reading is taken from Deuteronomy 25 where the attack on the Jewish people by the evil nation of Amalek is recorded. The Amalekites were pure evil – an entire nation of Hitlers and Ahmadinejads. What was the evil that the Amalekites committed? Even though the entire world saw how God took the Jewish people out of Egypt and performed scores upon scores of miracles for them in the process – Amalek didn’t care. .
