U.S. Congress Introduces Legislation to Relocate U.S. Embassy to Jerusalem

Members of the US Congress have submitted legislation calling upon the United States to move her embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. The bill, titled HR 2846: Recognition of Jerusalem as the Capital of Israel Act, which is sponsored by Trent Franks (AZ-08), Brad Sherman (CA-30), Doug Lamborn (CO-05), Gene Green (TX-29), and Juan Vargas (CA-51), is now being circulated among members of Congress. Earlier in the year, members of the House and Senate proposed a similar bill.

"The United States was the first nation to recognize Israel's sovereignty, a mere 11 minutes after the new state was formed in 1948. Today, 65 years later, Israel remains a uniquely precious ally. Just as the United States has assisted the Jewish people in restoring their ancient state, it is only fitting that we lead the way in recognizing Jerusalem for what it is: the undivided, eternal capital of Israel," said Congressman Tent Franks.

25 students from the Hebrew University, led by Lee-el Lewinsohn, the Campus Coordinator for Stand With Us, recently organized an International Women's Conference aiming to educate about women's rights in Israel and to promote worldwide gender equality. Leading public figures in Israeli society, including politicians, activists, businesswomen, journalists, and religious leaders were brought in to speak.

Lee-el said about the conference: "Our main purpose was to expose our participants from around the world to the role that Women play in Israel. Israel faces many challenges, and so do the women in Israel, but our strong pluralistic and democratic society has achieved many goals and is constantly in flux, changing, growing and improving."

Jews From Muslim Lands: The Forgotten Refugees of 1948

A Google search for "1948 refugees" produces about 6 million results. All but a few (at least through page six) are about the Palestinian Arab refugees, as if they were the only refugees of 1948. But it is estimated that from the beginning of the 1948 Arab-Israeli War through the early 1970s, up to 1,000,000 Jews fled or were expelled from their ancestral homes in Muslim countries.

260,000 of those refugees reached Israel between 1948 and 1951 and comprised 56% of all immigration to the fledgling state. By 1972, their numbers had reached 600,000.

Israeli Minister Speaks Out Against Releasing Terrorists

Israeli Economy Minister Naftali Bennett, while attending the seventh memorial of his dear friend, Lt. Col. Emmanuel Moreno, who was killed in 2006 during Israel's Second Lebanon War, spoke out against releasing Palestinian terrorists to re-start peace negotiations.

"Your image is with me in every step I take, and you remind me every day that we can fight for our home while remaining loyal to the Torah," said Bennett. "The decision to release terrorist killers is contrary to all the values we were taught in the IDF - values which say that there are no compromises in the fight against murderous terrorism."
