Aos 78 anos de idade e morador da cidade de Haifa, o \u00e1rabe-israelense Jamal Furani j\u00e1 havia sido submetido a quatro transplantes de c\u00f3rnea malsucedidos. Com o avan\u00e7o da doen\u00e7a, que h\u00e1 mais de uma d\u00e9cada agravava sua cegueira em ambos os olhos, ele tinha certeza de que jamais voltaria a enxergar.<\/p>\n

Mas isso mudou no in\u00edcio deste m\u00eas quando os m\u00e9dicos decidiram tentar novamente. Desta vez, com o implante CorNeat KPro, uma c\u00f3rnea artificial produzida em laborat\u00f3rio pela startup israelense Corneat Vision.<\/p>\n

No dia seguinte a cirurgia, o resultado pode ser confirmado e al\u00e9m de conseguir enxergar ap\u00f3s 12 anos, Jamal Furani fez com que l\u00e1grimas escorressem dos olhos de todos os presentes ao ver seus familiares mais pr\u00f3ximos e poder novamente ler.<\/p>\n

\u201cO procedimento cir\u00fargico foi bastante simples e o resultado excedeu todas nossas expectativas. O momento em que removemos os curativos foi muito emocionante e significante\u201d, disse a Dra. Irit Bahar para o jornal Israel Hayom. Cirurgi\u00e3 e chefe da Unidade de Oftalmologia do hospital Rabin Medical Center, foi ela quem liderou a equipe de transplante.<\/p>\n

Co-fundador da startup CorNeat Vision, o Dr. Gilad Litvin disse que para ele foi surreal poder presenciar o primeiro transplante de uma c\u00f3rnea artificial produzida pela empresa.<\/p>\n

\u201cAp\u00f3s anos de muito trabalho, ver uma colega transplantar a CorNeat KPro com facilidade e poder testemunhar um ser humano recuperando a vis\u00e3o no dia seguinte foi eletrizante e ao mesmo tempo comovente. Havia muitas l\u00e1grimas no consult\u00f3rio\u201d, disse o m\u00e9dico.<\/p>\n

A filha de Jamal Fulani, Khulad, disse ao canal 12 de televis\u00e3o israelense que seu pai poder\u00e1 finalmente conhecer ver seu novo neto, de apenas dois meses de idade.<\/p>\n

\u201cN\u00e3o bastava ser capaz de ouvir e sentir, algo estava faltando. Agora ele ser\u00e1 capaz de v\u00ea-lo com os pr\u00f3prios olhos\u201d, disse ela.<\/p>\n

Jamal disse que apesar da euforia da equipe m\u00e9dica, ele era a pessoa mais feliz no consult\u00f3rio ao poder enxergar novamente ap\u00f3s 12 anos. Referindo a seu neto ele disse: \u201c\u00e9 meu tesouro, quero v\u00ea-lo\u201d.<\/p>\n
