Les soldats de Tsahal ont opéré dans un tunnel situé au cœur d’une zone civile à Khan Younès, qui a servi à détenir une vingtaine d’otages à différents moments. Le tunnel mesurait environ 830 mètres de long et environ 20 mètres de profondeur.Certains des otages détenus là-bas ont été libérés et d’autres sont toujours dans les mains du Hamas. Lorsque les soldats ont atteint le tunnel, les otages avaient déjà été transférés vers un autre endroit.Ce tunnel, sous Khan Younès, faisait partie du réseau souterrain du Hamas. A la fin de l’opération, le tunnel a été détruit.
