Hamas remains committed to Israel’s destruction, its leader in Gaza stated, adding that the terror group’s ability to strike Israel has improved significantly.

Hamas has significantly improved its abilities to strike at Israel, Yahya Sinwar, Hamas’ leader in Gaza, boasted on Tuesday, claiming that the terror organization is now capable of firing at Tel Aviv within 51 minutes the same number of missiles it had fired during all 51 days of the 2014 summer war.

According to a Ynet report, Sinwar restated Hamas’ unwavering stance that it will not give up control over its arms in any case, and specifically not as part of the recent reconciliation agreement between the terror group and its rival Palestinian Fatah faction.

Earlier on, Palestinian Authority (PA) head Mahmoud Abbas, the Fatah leader, said he would not agree to the presence of Hamas’ armed militias in the Gaza Strip.

Sinwar evaded the demand by repeating that Hamas is committed to the unity agreement. “If Fatah has 20 percent of the seriousness we have about the reconciliation, then the divide will end,” he stated, according to Ynet.

Will Hamas Produce Accurate Rockets?

Israel’s defense establishment is concerned about recent developments in Gaza, specifically regarding Hamas’ warming ties with Tehran. The apprehension is based on suspicion that Hamas will attempt to manufacture advanced and accurate missile in Gaza, with Iran’s help. The process would entail the conversion of Hamas’ simple rockets, by means of GPS tracking components, into missiles capable of striking with precision.

During the recent visit by a Hamas senior delegation to Tehran, Hussein Sheikh Al-Islam, adviser to Iran’s foreign minister, said that “whatever Hamas asks for and Iran can give, it will.”

In recent weeks, senior Fatah officials have stated that they will not accept a reconciliation agreement with Hamas without full security control over the Gaza Strip. Nevertheless, the agreement was signed without any mention of Hamas’ disarmament or relinquishing its security control over the strip.

‘No One in the Universe Can Disarm Us’

Sinwar on Thursday said that rather than considering peace negotiations with Israel, “the discussion now is about when we will wipe out Israel.”

“Over is the time Hamas spent discussing recognizing Israel. Now Hamas will discuss when we will wipe out Israel. No one in the universe can disarm us. On the contrary, we will continue to have the power to protect our citizens,” Sinwar asserted. “No one has the ability to extract from us recognition of the occupation.”

Sinwar’s aggressive remarks were made in response to a statement by US Special Mideast Envoy Jason Greenblatt, following the reconciliation agreement between Hamas and Fatah that Hamas must renounce terror and commit to peace negotiations with Israel if it wants to play a role in the Palestinian government.

“Any Palestinian government must unambiguously and explicitly commit to nonviolence, recognize the state of Israel, accept previous agreements and obligations between the parties — including to disarm terrorists — and commit to peaceful negotiations. If Hamas is to play any role in a Palestinian government, it must accept these basic requirements,” Greenblatt said.
