Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic Ayatollah Ali Hosseini Khamenei made a public appearance on Sunday to dispel the widespread rumor that he had died.

Initial reports by a number of news sites quoted social media and various unconfirmed reports that Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Hosseini Khamenei died over the weekend.

He has been suffering from cancer and reportedly was rushed to a Tehran hospital on Friday.

Khamenei later made a public appearance on Sunday to dispel the rumors, addressing environment activists and state officials in a meeting in Tehran to mark the National Week of Natural Resources.

Iran’s Fars News categorized the public appearance as “particularly important” as it “put an end to Israeli driven rumors” in the social media and a number of western websites in the last three days that reported the Iranian leader had been hospitalized due to critical a health condition.

Fars News further charged the “western, and specially the Israeli media outlets” with scattering similar rumors “a dozen times in the last two decades.”

Khamenei has repeatedly spoken out against the US and called for Israel’s annihilation.

Sign the Petition to Stop a Nuclear Iran

Nuclear Weapon Free Iran Act

The US Congress must ensure that sanctions against Iran remain in force until the nuclear threat is completely eliminated.

I strongly oppose easing sanctions before the nuclear threat from Iran has been eliminated. Allowing Iran to enrich uranium without being subject to 'anytime, anywhere' inspections is extremely dangerous and unacceptable. Iran's nuclear program must be stopped.
