‘This documentary presents the unfiltered reality of what Jewish students face daily on campuses,’ explained Jamie Geller, Chief Communications Officer for Aish and one of the film’s producers, at the Jerusalem premiere.
The threats first came via social media, then by bullhorn, then face-to-face in campus dining halls and dorms.
For Shabbos Kestenbaum at Columbia, Eden Yadegar at Harvard, and Eli Tsives at UCLA, the past year of Jewish hostility on campus transformed them from ordinary students into inspiring filmmakers.
Their footage, raw, unedited clips of confrontations and quiet moments of fear, forms the backbone of “Frontline Warriors,” a film now making its way from Jerusalem to Times Square.
The documentary, just under an hour long, premiered on Sunday at Jerusalem’s Kirk Douglas Theater in the Aish Dan Family World Center.
It presents what its creators call “the unfiltered reality” of Jewish campus life in America after Hamas attacked Israel on October 7, 2023.
“This documentary presents the unfiltered reality of what Jewish students face daily on campuses,” explained Jamie Geller, Chief Communications Officer for Aish and one of the film’s producers, at the Jerusalem premiere.
“It is incredibly important for us to not only recognize what is happening on campus but also to learn how to combat and overcome the rampant and often violent rise of antisemitism in colleges and universities across the United States.”
One student attending the premiere, who asked not to be named, described the documentary’s impact in personal terms.
“Watching this movie, I really felt like I was watching history unfold right before my eyes. I feel like this is so important for everyone to see, for everyone to learn about. I would not be surprised if years from now, our children are watching this and wondering how the world ever could have gotten to such a point and why we had to fight so hard to bring this to the world.”
Tonight, the documentary makes its American debut at the Regal Theater in Times Square. A panel discussion will follow, featuring Kestenbaum, Yadegar, and others who appear in the film. From there, “Frontline Warriors” begins a tour of 18 additional screenings across the globe.
“This documentary is so crucial right now,” says Aish CEO Rabbi Steven Burg. “We must share the powerful, painful story of Aish Ha’am students on the frontlines of Columbia, Harvard, and UCLA, standing up against the most blatant displays of Jew hatred seen on university campuses since Nazi Germany in the 1930s.”
History may repeat itself, but thanks to these brave student filmmakers, it can no longer do so in the shadows while the world pretends not to see.
