Israel has identified Majed Naveed, 54, as the Iranian Revolutionary Guards’ commanding engineer of Hezbollah’s precision missile project in Lebanon, reported i24NEWS on Tuesday.

Engineers working for Hezbollah are trying to convert surface-to-surface missiles into precision-guided missiles, said i24NEWS defense correspondent Matthias Inbar.

Naveed is in charge of three sites in Beirut as well as two others in southern Lebanon and the Beka’a Valley.

Additionally, he is frequently in contact with a counterpart in Yemen, the “testing ground” for Hezbollah and Iranian missiles fired by Huthi rebels at Saudi Arabia.

In September 2018, Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu exposed the Hezbollah precision-missile project in a speech to the United Nations General Assembly. At that time, the Israei leader revealed the locations of what he said were missile factories and caches in the heart of Beirut.

Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah has boasted of the group’s rocket arsenal, which Israel now estimates to contain 100,000 to 150,000 rockets.

On Friday, Nasrallah threatened key Israeli sites, saying that locations along the Mediterranean coast, including the city of Tel Aviv, are “within range of our rockets.”

In response, Netanyahu said that the country would retaliate with a “crushing military blow” if Hezbollah “dares make the mistake of attacking Israel.”
