The Indo-Israel Center of Excellence will provide leadership, best practices, research and training for growing semi-arid agricultural crops.

Israel and India inaugurated a center for the advancement of making the desert bloom in the northern Indian city of Gignow on Sunday.
The Indo-Israel Center of Excellence, established as part of the Indo-Israel Agricultural Project, will provide leadership, best practices, research and training for growing semi-arid agricultural crops.
“This is a significant milestone in the agricultural cooperation between Israel and India. It is very special as this is the thirtieth Centre of Excellence inaugurated as our countries are nearing the completion of 30 years of full diplomatic relations,” said Israeli Ambassador to India Naor Gilon.
“More such centers are in the pipeline. These centers are increasing farmers’ yield and productivity while diversifying local crops and improving the quality of produce,” Ambassador Gilon said.
These centers provide a platform for demonstrating and transferring new agricultural technology to Indian farmers, such as protected cultivation, drip irrigation and “fertigation,” which provides plants with fertilizing nutrients through the irrigation network.
These centers annually produce more than 40 million premium quality vegetable seedlings, over 500,000 high-quality fruits, and train more than 120,000 farmers across India.
India’s National Statistics Office reported in 2021 that the country had 36.1 million farmers.
