An international team consisting of OECD and external experts, has reported that Israel has one of the best health care systems in the world. The group visited visited the country’s five largest hospitals and health clinics in Jewish development towns and Arab villages.

The report indicates that the health system in Israel is considered especially good for its ability to diagnose chronic diseases at early stages which prevents unnecessary hospitalization. It also makes mention of the fact that Israeli health care improved significantly as a result of the huge immigration from the former Soviet Union in the 1990’s which brought large numbers of doctors and nurses to the country.

The report included areas within the health system which must be improved. Deputy Health Minister Yaakov Litzman already asked Health Ministry director-general Prof. Ronni Gamzu to apply the recommendations of the report.
