Israeli Special Forces were successful in capturing an Arab on Sunday night after he expressed his intentions to carry out an attack.

The Police stated that its elite Yamam counterterrorism unit captured the suspect on Highway 6. Acting on information acquired by the Shin Bet security service, they arrested a suspect at the Nachshonim Junction, near Petah Tikva.

The suspect, who is in Israel illegally, was taken for questioning by the Shin Bet. He had told his friends he intended to carry out an attack. He was not armed at the time of his arrest.

This incident occurred after the Yamam was successful in tracking down and eliminating a three-member Islamic Jihad terror cell in Jenin on Friday night.

Security tensions in Israel are high, after a series of terror attacks in the Jerusalem area, the murder of four Israelis in Beersheba, the murder of another two in Hadera by Islamist terrorists, and the latest attack in Bnei Brak which left five dead, and during the Muslim month of Ramadan, which usually spells an uptick in Muslim violence and acts of terrorism in Israel.

The country’s security establishment is bracing for violence, especially as Ramadan coincides with Passover, and following the first anniversary of Operation Guardian of the Walls in May 2021, which was launched by the IDF following a Hamas rocket attack on Jerusalem that began at the height of the Month of Ramadan.
