“I just feel sad for the insults we get from many Arabs and Muslims in this town. We consider them Swedes. They consider us enemies.”

Tens of masked Muslims rioted in Stockholm, Sweden, Saturday night, apparently in retaliation for the convicting of a Muslim who was sent to prison for 10 years for his involvement in a murder.

They threw rocks and Molotov cocktails at police vehicles and security forces, reportedly in revenge for the sentencing that they found objectionable. Police forces fought back, and 11 protesters were arrested in the process. They are all suspected of aggravated assault, rioting and arson. Several have criminal records.

No injuries were reported, however, the vandals caused extensive damage to property and police vehicles. Police forces found piles of broken pavement stones for throwing, Molotov cocktails and an ax at the scene.

A police cruiser, ambushed by the rioters, called for backup, thus drawing more forces into the inferno.

Authorities believe the violence was planned rather than a spontaneous outburst of suppressed rage.

The riot occurred in Ragsved, which is situated in southern Stockholm. This follows week-long riots that took place in Husby, at the other end of the capital, in May last year when, Reuters reports, hundreds of cars were set on fire as police battled immigrant youths following a police shooting. Like Husby, Ragsved has a large Muslim immigrant population.

Residents in the area told the Aftonbladet that the area looked like a “battle scene.”

“I was really shocked when I came home late yesterday and saw all this,” said a woman who lives in the neighborhood.

The Islamization of Sweden

Writing for the Gatestone Institute, Mudar Zahran explains that Sweden has been most welcoming to immigrants from Muslims countries, but he describes the suffering that the Swedes endure as a result.

Today, 350,000 of Sweden’s population of 9.5 million are Muslims. On a recent visit to Sweden, Zahran, a Muslim, saw that the Swedes’ welcoming and tolerance have been abused by many Muslims. They respond to Sweden’s kindness by seeking to Islamicize the country.

According to a 2007 report by the Open Society Institute, Gatestone continues, the number of Muslims in Sweden is estimated to be between 250,000 and 400,000, representing 1.8-4.4 percent of the population.

Swedes in general describe a reality in which Muslim fundamentalists are out of control and even feared by the authorities, Gatestone reports.

“Police cars that approach Arab and Muslim areas are regularly attacked with rocks. At the moment, local Swedish authorities are not sure how to keep providing public services in those areas. They are even considering rolling back certain state services there. It is just too risky to operate in such a hostile environment. A few residents of the Arab-Muslim areas in Uppsala describe their neighborhoods as ‘Sharia areas where Sweden’s government is not welcome,’” a police officer said.

Another person commented: “I am not sure where we are going in this country. We feel that we have lost our country forever to Islamists.”

A local businessman remarked, “I just feel sad for the insults we get from many Arabs and Muslims in this town. We consider them Swedes; they consider us enemies. We are doing our job, we are protecting them, and we will never fail them nor look down on them, [so] why are we received with such hostility?”
