Shortly after the US president rebuked the Iranian government at the UN, the Israeli prime minister took to social media to offer kudos.
After Donald Trump’s first address before the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), during which he referred to the Iran nuclear deal as “an embarrassment to the United States,” Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued a series of tweets lauding the US president. The comments arrived on the heels of a Netanyahu-Trump meeting on the sidelines of the UNGA at which the Iran deal was a major focus.
“In over 30 years in my experience with the UN, I never heard a bolder or more courageous speech,” remarked Netanyahu. Among Trump’s comments at the UNGA was his observation that the Iran deal was one of the “worst and most one-sided transactions the United States has ever entered into.”
Trump also issued a challenge to the international community, announcing, “It is time for the entire world to join us in demanding that Iran’s government end its pursuit of death.” These comments echoed Netanyahu’s previous warnings regarding Iran’s influence on Israel’s northern border.
In response to Trump’s UN comments, Netanyahu tweeted, “President Trump spoke the truth about the great dangers facing our world, and issued a powerful call to confront them in order to ensure the future of humanity.”
Netanyahu later delivered his own speech to the world body, reiterating the Iranian threat while warning the Islamic Republic that “as long as Iran’s regime seeks the destruction of Israel, Iran will face no fiercer enemy than Israel.”
The Israeli leader also thanked Trump, US Ambassador Nikki Haley and the America people for their support for the Jewish state.
