Police have arrested eight people for failing to prevent a crime following Sunday’s murder of Adiel Kolman, who was stabbed to death outside the Lions Gate in the Muslim Quarter of Jerusalem’s Old City.

A police spokesman said that the detainees, residents of the quarter and merchants working there, did nothing to stop Abd al-Rahman Bani Fadel, a Palestinian from Aqraba near Nablus, from stabbing Kolman before he was shot dead by a policeman. Kolman was walking toward the light rail station outside the Damascus Gate from his job as a security guard at the City of David archaeological site.

Police added that according to their investigation Fadal had committed a premeditated, nationalistically motivated attack with the intention of murdering civilians.

Kolman, 32, a father of four, was laid to rest in the Kochav Hashachar community in the Binyamin District on Monday.

Speaking at the funeral, Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat said that despite warnings from security forces that a wave of violence is coming to Jerusalem, “we are determined to continue with our lives and to continue to build and be built. We will all continue to live and to build Jerusalem and the entire land of Israel.”
