Urge The University of California to ensure that classrooms are not being used to promote anti-Zionism propaganda

The UCLA Academic Senate Committee on Academic Freedom has given its official endorsement to Professor David Delgado Shorter’s use of his class website to promote the boycott of Israeli academics, universities, and cultural institutions.

Leila Beckwith is Professor Emeritus in Pediatrics at University of California Los Angeles. Professor Beckwith co-founded the Investigative Taskforce on Campus Antisemitism.

Professor Beckwith explains “…. In recent years much, although not all, of this hostility is expressed through the guise of ‘anti-Zionism/anti-Israelism,’ an ideological and political category that frequently disguises or morphs into recognizable forms of antisemitism., such as blood libels and Jews controlling world power.”

Professor Beckwith adds “At California public university campuses the bigotry against Jews has been manifested by acts of: physical aggression/intimidation, destruction/defacement of property, verbal aggression, suppression of Jewish student events, anti-Semitic discourse, anti-Semitic imagery, and boycott, divestment and sanctions campaigns.”

Dear Regents of The University of California,

I am appalled that public resources are facilitating anti-Israel propaganda across the University system.

Specifically, I am appalled that the UCLA Academic Senate Committee on Academic Freedom has given its official endorsement to Professor David Delgado Shorter’s use of his class website to promote the boycott of Israeli academics, universities, and cultural institutions.

Through your silence you have condoned these abuses of academia.

Sincerely,
Your Name
