US Actor Forced to Walk Back False Accusations Against Israel

Hollywood actor Mark Ruffalo apologizes and admits that his posts suggesting Israel commits genocide were “not accurate, inflammatory and disrespectful.”

Apologizing on Twitter, Hollywood actor Mark Ruffalo on Monday walked back some of his anti-Israel comments, saying he was wrong to suggest that Israel was committing “genocide” against the Palestinians.

“I have reflected & wanted to apologize for posts during the recent Israel/Hamas fighting that suggested Israel is committing ‘genocide.’ It’s not accurate, it’s inflammatory, disrespectful & is being used to justify antisemitism here & abroad. Now is the time to avoid hyperbole,” Ruffalo tweeted.

Ruffalo apparently got sucked up in the anti-Israel frenzy as the IDF responded to thousands of rockets and mortars fired by terror groups in Gaza at Israeli population centers. The clash with Gaza started when Hamas fired a salvo of rockets at Jerusalem on May 10.

Many entertainment stars parroted Palestinian propaganda claims that Israel is “apartheid” and was trying to commit “ethnic cleansing” of the Palestinians, especially concerning the issue of the legal eviction of four Arab families from houses in Jerusalem’s Sheik Jarrah neighborhood that the courts had determined belonged to Jewish owners.

Ruffalo, who played the character The Hulk in the “Avengers” movie series, is known for his populist anti-Israel positions.

“We are on the brink of a full-scale war. Sanctions on South Africa helped free its Black people – it’s time for sanctions on Israel to free Palestinians,” Ruffalo tweeted on May 15 as hundreds of rockets fired by Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad targeted Israeli towns and cities, ignoring the fact that shooting rockets at civilians is a war crime.

More damning to Ruffalo was a recent Israeli study that confirmed the Palestinians’ own statistics showing a dramatic rise in the Palestinian population – proving that the so-called “ethnic cleansing” is a lie created by the anti-Israel propaganda machine.

Ari Ingel, director of the Creative Community for Peace, which fights cultural boycotts of Israel, noted last year that Ruffalo “is a longtime anti-Israel activist whose comments are not grounded in reality.”

“Instead of helping bring about peace between Israelis and Palestinians, these one-sided condemnations, grounded in fallacies, simply work to further division, mistrust, and hostility. As Lady Gaga said after visiting Israel, ‘the world view of Israel is just not reality,’” Ingel said.
