This Thursday, Israel and the United Kingdom will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Balfour Declaration, which was originally a historic letter sent by then-UK foreign secretary Arthur Balfour to British Jewish leader Lord Walter Rothschild. In the letter, Balfour told Rothschild that His Majesty’s government “view[ed] with favor the establishment in Palestine of a national home for the Jewish people.”

This was a major turning point in the recognition by the international community of the Jewish people’s historic right to the Land of Israel.
