The National Library of Israel released Unseen footage of soldiers celebrating Sukkot holiday during the 1973 Yom Kippur War.

The war began when the Egypt and Syria launched a surprise attack on Israeli Defense Force positions along the Suez Canal and Golan Heights.

The IDF’s chief rabbi ruled that soldiers were exempt from the Biblical commandments of sleeping in sukkot and shaking lulav bundles, the footage and other photos released showed how important these holiday traditions were to the boys on the front.

Although Israel took heavy losses, the IDF rallied and successfully counter-attacked the Arab forces.
