Israel recently changed it currency by adding two women to the 20 and 100 NIS bank notes. Who are these celebrities?

The language of Hebrew was revived in the nascent State of Israel, and among the first works produced in the ancient tongue was the poetry of Rachel Bluwstein and Leah Goldberg.

Leah had kept a diary in Hebrew from the age of 10 and dreamed of writing in Hebrew.

Rachel was born in Russia and learned Hebrew by listening to children in pre-state Israel.

Watch the story of these Israeli culture icons and learn how they became “Women of Note.”

Women of note

Israeli poets Rachel Bluwstein and Leah Goldberg now grace Israel's new 20 and 100 NIS notes. Both women wrote in Hebrew, though it was not their first language. Rachel, born in Imperial Russia, learned Hebrew by listening to children. Leah Goldberg, born to a Jewish Lithuanian family, dreamed of being able to write in Hebrew. This is their story.
