A young Jewish immigrant from Belarus had joined the elite Sayeret Matkal, an intelligence-gathering unit in the IDF that conducts deep reconnaissance behind enemy lines to obtain strategic information, conduct counter-terrorism and rescue hostages beyond Israel’s borders.
To this day he can only be named as “S” due to his intelligence work.
After almost being killed by a Hamas ambush in Gaza, S survived, although his injuries permanently altered his life.
