Priestly blessing Western Wall Passover 2019

The Priestly Blessing ceremony includes hundreds of priests, descendants of the tribe of Levi. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the annual event at the Western Wall will not take place this year and instead will be performed online.

Tens of thousands of Jews, including Israelis and tourists, gather at the Western Wall in Jerusalem each year during the interim days of Passover and Sukkot for the traditional mass Priestly Blessing.

“The fact that tens of thousands of worshipers are now at the Western Wall Plaza is very moving,” Jerusalem Mayor Moshe Leon said, Israel National News (INN) reported during the Passover 2019 event. “The Jerusalem municipality prepared itself ahead of time, with stands offering water to the public.”

The Priestly Blessing ceremony includes hundreds of priests, descendants of the tribe of Levi. The commandment to bless the Jewish people and the words of the blessing are found in the Bible (Numbers 6: 22-27).
