While Iran’s president vowed revenge three years after Qassem Soleimani’s death, the regime suffered another loss when a senior IRGC officer was gunned down at his home.

On Tuesday, Iran observed the third anniversary of the assassination of Qassem Soleimani, an Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) general who was killed in a targeted U.S. drone strike in Iraq.

Soleimani was an arch-terrorist who directed regional proxies threatening the local populations in Israel, Lebanon, Syria, and Iraq. He was not only reviled in the West, anti-regime protesters in Iran have been tearing down billboards with his picture and destroying other images of him.

While Iran’s brutal regime intended to commemorate Soleimani on Tuesday, another IRGC thug named Qassem Fethallah was “gunned down” the same day, reported the Associated Press, based on “a semi-official news site” from Iran.

The AP described Fethallah as “an Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps officer commanding a Tehran security phalanx” who was “shot four times at the entrance to his home.”

Fethallah’s killing represented a stark reality check for the Iranian regime, whose president, Ebrahim Raisi, addressed a ceremony marking Solemeini’s death on Tuesday.

According to Raisi, those behind Solemeini’s assassination “should know that retaliation is obvious…there will be no relief for murderers and accomplices.”

Raisi also claimed Soleimani had vanquished “U.S. hegemony.”

The statements appeared ridiculous in light of Fethallah’s killing in the heart of IRGC’s stronghold, Tehran.

Since September, Iran has been rocked by nationwide protests in response to the death of a young woman named Mahsa Amini, who died in custody of Iran’s morality police for violating the regime’s Islamic dress code.

“The demonstrators say they are fed up with decades of social and political repression and are calling for the overthrow of the ruling clerics,” reported AP after Fethallah’s killing. “The protests mark one of the the biggest challenges to Iran’s theocracy since the 1979 revolution that brought it to power, and rights groups say security forces have used live fire, bird shot and tear gas to disperse them.”

Over 500 protesters have been killed and 19,000 people have been placed under arrest, calling into question the sustainability of Iran’s repressive regime.
