Israel’s Southern District prosecution filed an indictment at the Beersheba District Court against an Arab-Israeli mother of seven on charges of espionage.

Security forces last month arrested an Arab-Israeli mother of seven from Haifa who had been recruited by an Islamic group to spy and commit acts of terror, according to reports following the lifting of a media gag order on Thursday.

Nassrin Hassan Abdallah Hassan, 40, is married to a Gaza resident and was living in the Strip in recent years. Her activities, however, were based in Israel.

Hassan confessed that she was recruited to carry out terrorist attacks inside Israel – in view of her being an Israeli citizen, and therefore “free to enter and move within the country,” the Shin Bet – Israeli Security Agency – said.

The Kataeb al-Mujahaddin organization, which recruited her, has carried out a number of terror attacks against Israeli targets in recent years, including rocket fire at Israel.

In January and July of 2014, she gathered intelligence information regarding government buildings and infrastructure in Haifa, including the Port of Haifa, a train station, offices of the Ministry of the Interior, a courthouse and a synagogue – including security measures at the sites. “Upon her return to the Gaza Strip, she passed on this information to the terror organization, clearly knowing that it will be used to carry out terrorist activities,” the Shin Bet said.

In addition to collecting intelligence for terrorist attacks, Hassan was asked, and agreed, to commit attacks in Israel for the organization; to this end she received training in bomb preparation.

Acting on the instructions of her operators, Nassrin turned to a number of Israeli civilians in order to recruit them for the organization’s terrorist activities. Her recruitment efforts were unsuccessful.

“The activities by this Israeli civilian are severe,” the Shin Bet stated.
