As Israel’s economy makes a strong recovery from the pandemic, the cost of goods and services is skyrocketing.

Tel Aviv has recently been crowned the world’s most expensive city to live in, beating out Paris and Singapore in the Economist Intelligence Unit’s (EIU) 2021 rankings. The city’s reputation as an international tech hub is attracting foreign investment which is driving up the cost of living.

Making matters worse, global inflation and supply chain issues caused by the coronavirus lockdowns are being blamed for the seaside city’s new ranking.

Meanwhile, as Israel’s economy makes a strong recovery from the pandemic, the cost of goods and services is skyrocketing.

The result of the increase in property value is that working-class families are being compelled to flee Tel Aviv in search of more affordable housing in the surrounding suburbs. In some cases, lower-income families are being physically forced out of their homes and onto the streets, as was the case in the Givat Amal neighborhood of Tel Aviv.

The eviction took place in November, right before the rainy season.

These and many other lower-class Israelis now must scramble to find shelter and food for their families as the rainy winter season sets in.

Luckily for them, organizations like Meir Panim are there to help. Meir Panim is Israel’s most well-established foodbank. The organization has erected its signature Restaurant-Style Soup Kitchens throughout Israel to provide for the nation’s downtrodden.

This winter, they have a lot of mouths to feed. That’s why they are running an emergency campaign to collect as many donations as possible.

Donors worldwide are also stepping up in December. That’s because now is your last chance this year to make tax-deductible donations to Meir Panim, a non-profit organization. Additionally, the winter months are the harshest for Israel’s impoverished communities, as the cost of heating and other household utilities increases.
