Chilling Details Emerge of Iranian Plot to Kill Netanyahu’s Son

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu revealed earlier this week that Iran had attempted to assassinate one of his sons, but declined to say whether the target was Yair or Avner.

Now, a new report claims the intended target was Yair Netanyahu, the prime minister’s 35-year-old eldest son, and that the Iranian plot reached all the way to South Florida, where he was living at the time.

According to Newsmax, a U.S. law enforcement source familiar with the matter said Israeli intelligence uncovered the alleged assassination plot last December and alerted American authorities.

The threat was reportedly far from theoretical.

The source said authorities believed Iranian operatives were already “on the ground” in the Miami area and had conducted surveillance of Yair’s residence and movements in Hallandale Beach.

Yair, who had an Israeli security detail, was reportedly instructed to leave the United States immediately.

Netanyahu first disclosed the assassination attempt during an interview with Israel’s Channel 14 on Monday, without identifying which of his sons had been targeted.

“There is something unbelievable here,” Netanyahu said. “Iran targeted one of my sons. Iran tried to murder him, tried to murder one of my sons.”

The prime minister raised the incident while defending the extensive government security provided to members of his family.

“That is why this security is not a luxury,” Netanyahu said, warning that without adequate protection, those targeting his family “could succeed.”

The Newsmax report now identifies Yair as the son Netanyahu was referring to and suggests the alleged Iranian operation had advanced to the point that suspected operatives were conducting surveillance near his Florida residence.

The reported plot comes amid longstanding concerns over Iranian efforts to assassinate Israeli and American officials and other prominent targets abroad.

In July, Israel extended Shin Bet protection for Netanyahu’s wife, Sara, and sons Yair and Avner. The sons are expected to continue receiving protection for five years even if Netanyahu leaves office.

The reported Florida plot lends new weight to Netanyahu’s argument that the security surrounding his family is a response to concrete threats rather than merely a precaution.
