El 28 de octubre de 2017, la UNRWA anunció que descubrió un túnel terrorista debajo de una de sus escuelas para niños en Beit Hanun, Gaza. El túnel terrorista fue descubierto hace un mes por la agencia de la ONU y es un completo abuso a las instalaciones de la ONU.
“La presencia de un túnel bajo una instalación de la UNRWA, que goza de inviolabilidad bajo el derecho internacional, es inaceptable”, afirmó la UNRWA. “Pone a niños y personal de la Agencia en riesgo”.
La agencia reportó que ha tomado las medidas necesarias para devolverle la seguridad a la escuela y ha sellado la cavidad debajo de la institución. “La Agencia demanda nuevamente respeto absoluto por la neutralidad e inviolabilidad de las premisas de las Naciones Unidas todo el tiempo”.
Hamás tiene una larga historia usando civiles de Gaza como cubierta para sus actividades terroristas. De hecho, los esfuerzos de inteligencia han encontrado que una porción considerable de la infraestructura militar de Hamás hace uso de infraestructura civil como casas, escuelas, mezquitas, hospitales y otros edificios públicos. Esta es otra instalación de la ONU que ha sido corrompida por el control de Hamás. Hamás continúa priorizando la matanza de israelíes por sobre la prosperidad y seguridad de los gazatíes.
