Prank or incitement and propaganda? Dollar bills bearing the image of ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi were discovered by residents in northern Israel.

Israeli police are investigating a peculiar incident in which banknotes bearing the face of Islamic State (ISIS) leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi were found by Israelis in the Galilee on Tuesday.

According to a report by Israel’s Channel 2, a resident in Israel’s northern region found a stack of fake $100 bills with al-Baghdadi’s face on it, ISIS symbols and writing in Arabic.

He called the police, who took the bills to a forensic lab.

Simultaneously, reports of similar findings came from more towns in the north.

“This is an upsetting incident,” Yoram Mualem, a local security official, told Channel 2. He said that police forces have boosted their presence in the area, and were searching for the source of the propaganda material.

Israel has previously confiscated ISIS propaganda materials, and of note, caught a large shipment of rings bearing the ISIS insignia at Israel’s Ben Gurion International Airport in May.

The silver rings were made in Turkey and ordered by an importer in the Palestinian Authority’s (PA) city of Ramallah. Israeli authorities destroyed the rings.
