Early Thursday morning, Israeli airstrikes on Syria took out 16 Iran-backed fighters in two different locations near the border with Iraq.

According to the UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, the strikes were launched by Israeli fighter jets and hit troops near Mayadeen and Boukamal, the Associated Press reported.

The Syrian government also announced strikes on the Homs airbase on Wednesday evening.

The raids on Wednesday night and Thursday morning follow IDF strikes on Monday, which killed two Syrian fighters and wounded a number of others.

Since 2017, Israel has launched hundreds of strikes in Syria, primarily targeting members of the Hezbollah terror group and fighters associated with Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC).

Israel neither confirmed nor denied the strikes this week, consistent with its long-standing policy.

Iran remains committed to the destruction of the Jewish state, in addition to threatening Israel’s allies in the Persian Gulf, such as the United Arab Emirates.

To that end, Iran bankrolls and trains terror groups such as Hamas, Hezbollah, and Palestinian Islamic Jihad, all of which have launched rockets at Israeli civilians.
