The IDF eliminated a Hamas commander who invaded Israel during the October 7 massacre and had recently been working to plant explosives and rebuild the terror group’s capabilities in Gaza, the military announced Saturday.
Muhammad Suleiman Byouk, a commander in Hamas’s military wing, was killed in an Israeli strike in the Khan Yunis area on Thursday.
According to the IDF, Byouk crossed into Israeli territory during the Hamas-led October 7, 2023, invasion and massacre.
Throughout the war, and particularly in recent months, he was involved in planting explosive devices across the Gaza Strip intended to target Israeli troops.
The military said Byouk also advanced terror attacks against IDF forces and Israeli civilians and worked to improve the readiness of Hamas terrorists and restore the organization’s military capabilities.
The activities constituted a “systematic violation of the ceasefire,” according to the IDF, which said Byouk was eliminated to remove the threat he posed.
His elimination comes amid a series of recent Israeli strikes against Hamas commanders and October 7 terrorists accused of attempting to rebuild the organization during the ceasefire.
On Thursday, the IDF announced that it had eliminated Muhammad Jamal Ahmad Eid, a Hamas Nukhba commander who also invaded Israel on October 7, in a strike in the Bureij area.
In a separate strike in Gaza City, the IDF eliminated Saleh Ziad Ibrahim Miqdad, a platoon commander in Hamas’s naval forces. The military said both men had recently been advancing attacks against Israeli troops and civilians while working to restore Hamas’s capabilities.
Earlier in the week, the IDF and Shin Bet also eliminated several senior Hamas commanders, including Jabalia Battalion commander Ahmad Batsh and Rafat Abu Zamar, a company commander in the terror group’s operations headquarters.
The IDF said the terrorists had been advancing attacks and working to rebuild Hamas’s military capabilities in violation of the ceasefire.
IDF troops under Southern Command remain deployed in Gaza in accordance with the ceasefire agreement and will continue operating to remove immediate threats, the military said.
