The IDF said it eliminated a Hamas terrorist who infiltrated Israel during the October 7 massacre and was subsequently presented as a journalist, as the military released new evidence highlighting what it says is a broader pattern of terrorist operatives in Gaza posing as members of the press.

Muhammad Abd al-Aziz Muhammad Nagar was a member of Hamas’s military wing who participated in the October 7 invasion of Israel, according to the IDF.

Following his elimination, however, Nagar was presented as a journalist without mention of his membership in Hamas’s military wing, the military said.

The IDF said Nagar had recently been advancing attacks against Israeli civilians and troops and working to restore Hamas’s military capabilities in what it described as systematic violations of the ceasefire.

He was targeted “in order to remove the threat he posed,” the military said.

The announcement came as the IDF published the names and profiles of 10 additional Palestinians it says presented themselves as journalists while simultaneously serving as military operatives for Hamas, Palestinian Islamic Jihad and other terrorist organizations.

The military released the information as part of an initiative dubbed “The Press Files,” aimed at countering allegations that the IDF deliberately targeted journalists during the Gaza war.

“Over the past three years of the war, numerous articles, opinion pieces and reports have repeated the claim that the IDF deliberately targets journalists in Gaza, in violation of international law,” the IDF said.

“But that claim does not tell the full story.”

According to the IDF, individuals presented to the international community as legitimate media professionals were in fact members of the military wings of terrorist organizations operating in Gaza.

“Journalists are expected to report the unbiased truth,” the IDF said. “Yet these individuals concealed a fundamental truth about themselves: their own roles within military wings of terrorist organizations.”

Among those identified by the IDF are Amro Nahid Abdel Rahman Abu Odeh, Abdel Aziz Mohammed Ibrahim Al-Hajjar, Asem Adli Ahmed Al-Barsh, Hassan Majdi Ibrahim Abu Warda and Mohammed Jamal Sobhi Al-Thalathini.

The military also named Mohammed Manhal Ahmed Abu Armana, Tariq Al-Sayed Ismail Abu Sukheil, Mohammed Sami Abdullah Jarghoun, Yaqoub Anan Mohammed Al-Barsh and Mohammed Mahmoud Abdel Aziz Abu Sharia.

The IDF published individual profiles for each of the 10 men, which it says contain evidence of their roles as military operatives while they were presented publicly as journalists.

“The evidence below exposes what they left out of the story,” the military said.

The disclosures come amid longstanding international criticism over the deaths of Palestinians identified by media organizations and advocacy groups as journalists during the Gaza war.

The IDF maintains that some individuals presented as journalists have simultaneously served in terrorist organizations, and says the newly released files document specific cases of such dual roles.

The military indicated that further disclosures are expected, concluding its “Press Files” page with the message: “More coming soon.”
