Nuclear agreement notwithstanding, Iran continues with its weapons development. The latest missile produced, the Fateh 313, is capable of striking both Israel and Europe.

At a ceremony in Tehran attended by Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, the Islamic Republic unveiled its new precision-guided missile, the Fateh 313, on National Defense Industry Day on Saturday, the Iranian Fars news agency reports.

The domestically produced missile has a range of 500 kilometers and can strike both Israel and Europe.

Fars describes the Fateh 313 as “state-of-the-art” and “among the most precise ballistic missiles.”

“Iran joined the club of few countries that are capable of manufacturing solid-fuel and precision-striking missiles with a range of 500 kilometers,” the report boasts, quoting military sources as saying that the new missile was test-fired successfully. Iran’s Defense Ministry plans to begin mass production of Fateh-313 soon, they added.

This revelation comes as the US Congress is deciding on weather to vote in September in favor of or against President Barack Obama’s nuclear deal with Iran, according to which the arms embargo on Iran will be lifted after eight years.

Iran claims that its military development is for defense purposes only.

Iran’s Mass-Produced Weapons

The Fateh 313 joins a growing line of domestically produced weapons that Iran has been developing in recent years.

On Friday, Brigadier General Amir Ali Hajizadeh, commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Aerospace Force, said that Iran will continue to improve its missile systems “in a bid to enhance the country’s defense capabilities against enemies’ possible threats.”

“The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), in full compliance with Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s orders, will continue developing its defense capabilities and military might, especially the surface-to-surface ballistic missiles, and it will not compromise when dealing with the country’s defense issues,” Brigadier General Hajizadeh said, addressing a ceremony in the city of Qaemshahr in northern Iran.

Hajizadeh also announced Iran’s plans to hold massive ballistic missile drills in the near future.

Analysts say that the new launchers have a close resemblance to rocket launchers developed by North Korea.

During massive military drills over the past few years, the Iranian army has test-fired different types of newly developed missiles and torpedoes as well as a large number of home-made weapons, tools and equipment, including submarines, military ships, artillery, aircrafts, UAVs and air defense and electronic systems.

Many of these weapons were given to the Hezbollah terror organization and used against Israel’s civilian population during the Second Lebanon War in the summer of 2006.

Iran has repeatedly threatened to use its missiles against Israel.

Sign the Petition to Stop a Nuclear Iran

The US Congress must ensure that sanctions against Iran remain in force until the nuclear threat is completely eliminated.

I strongly oppose easing sanctions before the nuclear threat from Iran has been eliminated. Allowing Iran to enrich uranium without being subject to 'anytime, anywhere' inspections is extremely dangerous and unacceptable. Iran's nuclear program must be stopped.
