“We cannot allow Iranian aggression to go unanswered,” said Netanyahu of Iran’s latest illegal missile test.

Israel’s leadership is demanding action against the Islamic Republic of Iran after its was revealed on Monday that it carried out another missile test over the weekend, in apparent breach of United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions on the matter.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called on the international community to reimpose sanctions on Iran.

“Iran has again fired a ballistic missile in callous defiance of a UN resolution,” Netanyahu wrote on Facebook. “In my coming meeting in Washington with President Trump, I plan to raise the issue of renewing sanctions against Iran in relation to this and other things. We cannot allow Iranian aggression to go unanswered.”

Iran carried out a ballistic missile test near Semnan, some 140 miles east of the capital Tehran. A Khorramshahr medium-range ballistic missile was launched and eventually exploded after flying 600 miles. A defense official said the missile test ended with a “failed” re-entry into the earth’s atmosphere.

UN Security Council Resolution 2231, which endorsed the Iran nuclear agreement between Iran and the P5+1 powers, prohibits Iran from undertaking missile tests on projectiles designed to deliver nuclear warheads.

“Iran has once again defied Security Council resolutions and revealed its true intentions,” stated Israeli Ambassador to the UN Danny Danon “The international community must not bury its head in the sand in the face of this Iranian aggression. The Security Council members must act immediately in response to these Iranian actions which endanger not only Israel, but the entire Middle East.”

The UNSC has scheduled urgent consultations Tuesday on the ballistic missile test at the request of the US.

The US Mission to the UN said it wanted the UN’s most powerful body to discuss Sunday’s launch of a medium-range missile.

Senator Bob Corker (R-TN), chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, condemned Iran for the missile test.

“No longer will Iran be given a pass for its repeated ballistic missile violations, continued support of terrorism, human rights abuses and other hostile activities that threaten international peace and security,” Corker said in a written statement.

Iran’s Repeated Breach of UN Resolutions

Iran has previously carried out several missile tests, in blatant breach of UNSC resolutions.

In March of last year, Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) launched several ballistic missiles during a military exercise, with the phrase “Israel must be wiped out” written on them.

Iran claims that its military development is for defense purposes only.

However, many of these weapons were given to the Hezbollah terror organization and used against Israel’s civilian population during the Second Lebanon War in the summer of 2006.

Iran has repeatedly threatened to use its missiles against Israel.
