Israel hosted senior officials and business leaders from Greece and Cyprus in Jerusalem this week for talks aimed at expanding strategic and economic cooperation between the three Mediterranean countries.

The Israeli Foreign Ministry hosted the opening of the fourth Mare MED TLV Conference on Tuesday, bringing together representatives from the three countries to discuss cooperation in defense, energy, shipping, agriculture, water technology and innovation.

The gathering reflects the growing partnership between Israel, Greece and Cyprus, which has expanded in recent years across economic, diplomatic and security fields. Their location in the eastern Mediterranean has also positioned the three countries to play an important role in developing new energy, transportation and trade links between Europe, the Middle East and Asia.

A major focus of the conference was advancing the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor, or IMEC, a proposed trade network intended to connect India with Europe through the Middle East and strengthen regional economic integration.

Israel’s position on the Mediterranean could make it an important link in the proposed corridor, while Greece and Cyprus provide potential gateways into the European market.

Yael Ravia-Zadok, the Foreign Ministry’s deputy director general for economic affairs, highlighted the strength of the existing economic relationship, noting that annual trade between Israel, Greece and Cyprus has surpassed $2 billion.

She said there remains significant potential to expand commerce and develop additional regional cooperation.

The conference, now in its fourth edition, is being held with the support and cooperation of the Foreign Ministry and under the initiative and leadership of Benny Moran.

Following the opening in Jerusalem, participants continued to Tel Aviv for business meetings, professional sessions and visits focused on industry, defense and technology.

The meetings are also aimed at connecting Israeli, Greek and Cypriot businesses and translating the countries’ growing strategic ties into new commercial partnerships.
