Israel Remains on High Alert After Trump Holds Off on Major Iran Strikes

Officials assessed that had Washington launched the anticipated attack, there was a high likelihood Israel would have joined the fighting.

Israel remains on high alert for a possible renewed confrontation with Iran after preparing over the weekend for a major U.S. attack that ultimately did not take place.

According to Israeli officials, Israel was on particularly high alert on Friday night amid expectations that President Donald Trump could order a significant escalation of the American military campaign against Tehran. Officials assessed that had Washington launched the anticipated attack, there was a high likelihood Israel would have joined the fighting.

But the expected escalation never came. U.S. forces did not carry out strikes against Iran on either Friday or Saturday night, breaking a run of 13 consecutive nights of American attacks.

The two-night pause coincided with Trump’s decision to set aside, at least for now, plans to sharply intensify the U.S. campaign.

According to The New York Times, one of the administration’s key concerns is that renewed major combat could dangerously deplete American stocks of Patriot antimissile interceptors and other critical air-defense munitions in the Middle East.

The Pentagon’s interceptor supply has already been strained by the extensive defensive requirements across the region, making another major escalation particularly risky.

Trump and his senior advisers are also reportedly concerned about the possibility of a widening regional war, further Iranian attacks against vulnerable Gulf allies, disruptions to global energy markets and worsening economic and refugee crises.

Despite Trump’s decision to hold off, Israeli officials are maintaining a heightened state of readiness amid uncertainty over Washington’s next move and the possibility of an unexpected Iranian action.

The heightened preparations follow explicit threats from Tehran to strike Tel Aviv if the United States dramatically expands its offensive. Israeli officials have warned that any Iranian attack on Israel would trigger a powerful response.

For now, the immediate prospect of a major U.S. escalation appears to have receded, but Israel continues preparing for the possibility that the situation could rapidly change.
