In another indication of Israel’s rising status in the Arab world, the Jewish state was invited to showcase its innovations in water technology, health and hi-tech at a major exposition in Dubai.

Israel’s Foreign Ministry recently posted a short clip on its social media platforms showing a simulation of the planned pavilion at the 2020 World Expo, to be held in Dubai, October 2020 through April 2021.
Israel’s invitation to participate in this event represents a rare opportunity to showcase to the Arab world Israeli innovations and technologies, especially in the fields of water, health and hi-tech.
With an expected 25 million visitors, the World Expo is an apolitical event that focuses on innovation, cultural exchange, creativity and collaboration for the benefit of humanity.
Representatives from over 190 countries are expected to participate in the 173 day expo as Dubai announced that it had invited “every country in the world without exception” making it “a truly international event.”
Vicente G. Loscertales, head of the Paris-based Bureau International des Expositions (BIE), said in April that “by inviting all countries of the world to take part, including the State of Israel, the organizers of Expo 2020 are genuinely reflecting the universal spirit of World Expos.”
Israel’s welcomed participation in an event in the capital of the United Arab Emirates, a nation with which it has no formal diplomatic relations, is a sign of continued warming relations between Israel and the Gulf states.
According to a survey published in October by the Foreign Ministry in Jerusalem, 42 percent of people in the Emirates want to establish relations with Israel.
The theme of this year’s expo is “Connecting Minds – Creating the Future.”
Israel’s pavilion is described as a place with “no walls and no borders.” Visitors are invited “to join hands in an amazing journey forward,” “to shape our future together” and “to believe in a better future for all mankind.”
When the Foreign Ministry announced in April that Israel will exhibit at the 2020 World Expo, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said this is “another expression of Israel’s rising status in the world and the region.”
