Israeli airstrikes are hitting Sanaa International Airport and Yemeni ports. The strikes came as Houthi leader Abdul-Malik al-Houthi was giving a televised speech.
According to Israel National News, Israeli targets included the port of Hudaydah, and a power plant in Haziz, south of the capital.
Israeli officials have not commented yet, but Sky News quoted an Israeli figure confirming the attack.
On Wednesday, while lighting the candle for the first night of Hanukkah, Prime Minister Netanyahu said, “We light the first candle of Chanukah to commemorate the victory of the Maccabees of that time and the victory of the Maccabees of today,” Netanyahu said.
“As then – we strike blows at the oppressors and those who thought they would cut the thread of our lives here, so this will apply to everyone.
“The Houthis will also learn what Hamas and Hezbollah and the Assad regime and others learned, and even if it takes time, this lesson will be learned throughout the Middle East. I tell you, in those days at this time,” he added, referencing Chanukah liturgy.
Israeli air defenses intercepted a ballistic missile fired by Yemen’s Houthis in the early hours of Wednesday morning, the second night in a row residents of Tel Aviv were forced to take shelter.
The Israel Defense Forces said the missile was shot down before it reached Israeli air space.
Magen David Adom said responders said they had treated nine people for injuries suffered while making their way to protected spaces and two others for panic attacks.
The missile was the fourth fired by the Iran-backed Houthis in a week.
On Tuesday, Defense Minister Israel Katz threatened the assassination of Houthi leaders.
