New data from the Ministry of Health indicates that vaccinated Israelis are far less likely to spread Covid in public areas.

Although the Pfizer vaccine does not provide 100% protection against corona infection, including from newer strains such as the Delta variant, it seems to have an inhibiting effect on its ability to spread.

According to a Channel 12 report, 80% of vaccinated individuals who recently contracted the virus did not spread it to others in public venues such as synagogues, restaurants, theaters and event halls.

Of the remainder, 10% passed the virus on to one person and 3% passed it on to two or three others. It couldn’t be determined if 7% had spread Covid to others or not.

Channel 12’s report didn’t indicate how many people were infected by unvaccinated people at these public sites.

On Thursday, Prime Minister Naftali Bennett warned that one million unvaccinated Israelis were posing a risk to the rest of the population. Those who don’t get immunized, he warned, would face the choice of paying for their own Covid tests or being cut off from synagogues, cinemas, sporting events and other such gatherings.

According to figures released by the Health Ministry on Saturday, Israel has 11,102 active cases of Covid, of which 89 are serious. Nearly 5.3 million Israelis have received both doses of the corona vaccine.

A total of 6,458 Israelis have died of Covid.
