A mezuzah on the home of a couple murdered on October 7th is now displayed on the doorpost of the new Israeli embassy in Paraguay.

Sivan Elkabetz was murdered with her partner Naor Hasidim during Hamas’s invasion of the kibbutzim in the south, and they hid when they heard explosions of the impending attack.

The last text Shimon Elkabetz received from his daughter was during her final moments trying to hide from the terrorists.

She wrote, “Dad, promise me you’re okay; there are terrorists at the window.”

To honor the memory of the couple, the Elkabetz and Hasidim family opened their children’s home in Kfar Azza as a testament to the atrocities Hamas committed on October 7th and to honor their memory.

Although the house suffered heavy damage, the mezuzah was unscathed.

Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana visited the home and brought delegations of lawmakers from around the world.

After one of the delegations visited the home, Shimon was invited to join a delegation to Paraguay.

Avi Hasidim gave Amir Ohana the mezuzah that belonged to the home.

Upon receiving the mezuzah, Ohana said, “It’s nearly a year since the tragedy, and I welcome the extraordinary opportunity to commemorate the lives of Sivan and Naor, who were inseparable, both in life and death.”

He added, “The mezuzah will also be a testament to them overseas.”

Ohana declared, “This is a message to our enemies: The tree you tried to cut down is sprouting stronger branches. Despite the horrors and pain of Hamas’s massacre, we still expect a future of growth and hope.”

The mezuzah was placed on the doorpost of the new Israeli embassy in Paraguay, and the ceremony was attended by Paraguayan President Santiago Peña, Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana and Avi Hasidim, Naor’s father.
