Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday met at the Prime Minister’s Office in Jerusalem with Irish Deputy Prime Minister, Minister for Foreign Affairs, and Minister for Defence Micheál Martin and welcomed him on his visit to Jerusalem.

According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office, the two discussed regional issues, including the Abraham Accords and their expansion and the security challenges facing Israel.

Prime Minister Netanyahu emphasized the need for a “balanced approach” toward the conflict with the Palestinians, including in international forums such as the UN.

In recent years, Irish politicians have been known to express strongly anti-Israel positions.

They also discussed the potential for strengthening cooperation in technology and innovation between the two countries and with the Western world in general.

Prime Minister Netanyahu said the two countries should cooperate in order to ensure their lead in technology, especially artificial intelligence.

Among those attending the meeting were the Strategic Affairs Minister, the Director of the National Security Council and the Israeli Ambassador to Ireland. The Irish Ambassador to Israel was among those attending for the Irish side.

While in Israel, Martin also visited Yad Vashem Holocaust Museum, writing about the visit, “Honoured, humbled and moved to be at Yad Vashem in Israel today.”

“It is very important we never forget what happened during the Holocaust, or the enduring lessons learned through the darkest period of human history.”
