Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued a statement of support to the people of Germany on Saturday following the deadly shooting attack the previous evening at the Olympia Mall in Munich.

Ali Sonboly, an 18-year-old Iranian-German, murdered nine people – most of them teens – in a shooting rampage.

The Islamic State terror organization celebrated the horrific attack on social media, although there is no evidence at this time that the shooter was affiliated with ISIS.

Police are still searching for the motive. “We cannot rule out that it is linked to terrorism. We can’t confirm it either, but we are also investigating in this direction,” said Peter Altmaier, Chancellor Angela Merkel’s chief of staff.

“Israel sends condolences to Germany over the murder of innocent citizens in the tragic shooting attack that occurred in Munich on Friday and wishes the wounded a quick recovery. Israel stands alongside Germany on this sad day,” Netanyahu stated.
