PA Honors Terrorists Who Lynched Two IDF Reservists

The Palestinian Authority honored three murderers of Jews with plaques of honor. The brutal lynching is etched in the minds of many Israelis as one of the most revolting acts of terror.

On October 12, 2000, a Palestinian mob brutally murdered two IDF reservists, Vadim Nurzhitz and Yossi Avrahami, and mutilated their bodies. The Israelis had mistakenly entered the Palestinian city of Ramallah.

A well-known scene from the gruesome murder, which occurred at a Palestinian police station and was fully recorded, shows a Palestinian, Aziz Salha, proudly raising his hands that were covered with the blood of his victims as others cheered him on. The bodies of the two Israelis were thrown out of the window, and the mob dragged them through the streets of Ramallah.

The heinous murder is deeply etched in Israeli collective memory as a profound demonstration of hatred. The Palestinian leadership, however, views it as an inspirational event.

Last week, Palestinian Authority (PA) Member of Parliament Issa Karake, director of the PLO Commission of Prisoners’ Affairs, visited the families of three of the terrorists who took part in the revolting incident, honoring the murderers with plaques of honor, Palestinian Media Watch (PMW) reports.

The three honorees are Muhammad Nawarah, Habbes Bayyoud and Jawad Abu Qara. Captured by Israel’s security forces, Nawarah is serving one life sentence; Bayyoud, two life sentences; and Abu Qara, 25 years.

“The visit began at the home of prisoner Muhammad Hashem Nawarah, 31 years old, who has been imprisoned since 2001,” the PA official daily Al-Hayat Al-Jadida reports. “Karake also visited the family of prisoner Jawad Abu Qara, 42, who has been imprisoned since 2001 and is now in Rimon prison. Abu Kara is married and has four sons, who grew and came of age without him being able to raise them and show them fatherly feelings because of the Occupation. The visit ended at the home of the family of prisoner Habes Bayyoud, 42 years old, who has been imprisoned since 2002…. Karake awarded plaques of honor to the prisoners’ families.”

Karake has repeatedly stated that Palestinians have an unequivocal right to “resistance” and “struggle” – Palestinian euphemisms for terrorism against Israelis. He often refers to the murderers as “heroes.”

PMW has documented multiple accounts of the PA and its ruling Fatah party’s glorification of terrorists as well as rewarding imprisoned murderers financially.

Petition to the United States and European Union

We demand that all funding of the PA be stopped immediately. The brutal murder of Israelis committed by Palestinian terrorists throughout Israel is the latest result of ongoing PA incitement against Israeli citizens. Funding the PA means funding terror.
