A Palestinian terrorist rammed his car into Israeli pedestrians waiting at a bus stop at the entrance to Jerusalem on Monday, wounding 14 of them.
Two victims, a 65-year-old woman and a toddler, sustained moderate wounds. The rest were lightly wounded. All victims were evacuated to hospitals in Jerusalem.
The terrorist was shot and killed by security forces at the scene. Police later found an axe in his car, indicating that he intended to continue his lethal attack.
He was identified by the police is a resident of eastern Jerusalem.
The site was barricaded for a prolonged period of time.
Jerusalem District Police Chief Commander Moshe Edri commended the security forces for their professional and swift response. “Their prompt and accurate response, which neutralized the terrorist, prevented a larger attack,” he said.
Endless Wave of Terror Attacks
On Sunday, a female Palestinian teenager attempted to stab Israelis on the outskirts of Hebron on Sunday, but was shot and wounded by IDF forces at the scene.
These incidents were the latest in a long series of almost daily Palestinian terror attacks – some more than once a day – that have plagued Israelis over the course of three months, claiming the lives of 21 victims and wounding some 220.
In the meantime, the IDF ordered on Sunday another four battalions to reinforce security forces operating in Judea and Samaria to fight the ongoing terror wave in the region.
For the first time since the attacks began in September, the IDF will call up two battalions of reservists to join regular IDF forces.
