Only 1/3 of Americans Approve of Obama’s Iran Deal

A new Gallup survey shows that US President Barack Obama received very low approval ratings on his management of the Iran nuclear deal.

Only one in three Americans approves of President Barack Obama’s handling of the situation regarding the recently signed nuclear accord with Iran, a new Gallup survey shows.

This is his lowest rating among eight other policy issues measured in the poll.

The nuclear agreement, signed by Iran and the US-led P5+1 powers, has been a major focus of the American leader as he tries drumming up support in Congress for the deal that Secretary of State John Kerry had helped broker.

Of the 1,011 participants in the poll, most of them Democrats, 56 percent agree with the president’s policies on Iran, contrasted with a small minority of Republicans – 10 percent – who approve.

A February survey revealed that Americans gave Iran the lowest favorable rating among 22 countries, and a strong majority said Iran’s development of nuclear weapons poses a “critical” threat to the US.

Another recent poll showed that the majority of Americans want Congress to vote against the Iran deal.

Obama’s overall approval rating in the poll is 47 percent, Gallup found. As such, he is rated better for doing his job overall than he is for handling any specific issue, though some of the differences in ratings are within the margin of error. That includes a 41% approval rating for handling the economy and 39% on foreign affairs.

Obama earns his highest marks for race relations, education and climate change, although he does not receive majority approval on any, Gallup points out.

“While Obama’s overall approval rating remains improved from where it was in late 2013 and 2014, it has been difficult for him to earn majority public approval on even a single issue,” the poll concludes.

Sign the Petition to Stop a Nuclear Iran

The US Congress must ensure that sanctions against Iran remain in force until the nuclear threat is completely eliminated.

I strongly oppose easing sanctions before the nuclear threat from Iran has been eliminated. Allowing Iran to enrich uranium without being subject to 'anytime, anywhere' inspections is extremely dangerous and unacceptable. Iran's nuclear program must be stopped.
