After Hezbollah threatened to retaliate over the death of one of its terrorists in Syria, the IDF deployed forces to the Lebanese border to meet the challenge head on.

On Thursday, the IDF confirmed it was sending troops to Israel’s border with Lebanon, a neighbor to the north that has fallen largely under the control of the Iran-directed Islamic terror group Hezbollah.
The Israeli military took the step after Hezbollah threatened to avenge the death of Ali Kamel Mohsen, a Hezbollah member killed in Syria during an airstrike Monday night in Damascus.
The terror groups says Israel carried out the strike, during which a number of other “foreign fighters” were killed, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), with speculation that these individuals were members of Iranian militias.
In response to Hezbollah’s threats, Israel said it was sending infantry troops to the Lebanese border on Thursday.
Hezbollah has claimed in the past that it will retaliate for any member killed by Israel in Syria, which provides a safe haven not only to the terror group, but also to Iranian military personnel and assets.
While Israel generally neither confirms nor denies strikes on regional enemies, security experts estimate the IDF has carried out hundreds of airstrikes on military installations in Syria since 2017.
Israel has made it clear to the international community it will not tolerate Iranian military entrenchment anywhere near its border because the Islamic Republic is committed to destroying the Jewish state.
Last fall, an Israeli airstrike near Damascus killed two Hezbollah members, after which the Iranian proxy launched a barrage of anti-tank missiles into Israel.
Israel returned fire, but the incident did not escalate into full blown war as it did in 2006.
