Best known for his role as a high school hunk on the teen sitcom “Saved by the Bell,” Mario Lopez arrived in Israel this week to tour the holy sites and take in the scenery. Lopez joins a growing list of celebrities, from Will Smith to Conan O’Brien, who have placed Israel at the top of their list of vacation destinations.

Lopez, who now serves as a host on “Extra,” commented on Instagram that visiting Israel was a goal he was going to cross off his “bucket list.”

Among Lopez’s stops in the Jewish state were the Sea of Galilee and a number of historical churches. The Catholic father of two has kept his fans and followers abreast of his touring, regularly providing updates to his 1 million Instagram followers and 1.5 million Twitter followers.

Lopez also made sure to visit Israel’s capital, Jerusalem, which he recognized as “the holiest city in the world.”

“You can just feel how special it is – it’s like an ancient city, everything just looks so majestic,” Lopez intoned.

The mainstay of 1990s television was surprised to find a good number of fans in the Holy Land, remarking, “I’m getting a lot of love here, in Israel,” he said. “They’re very very nice people, and they know me for some reason.”

Just last week, Dean Cain, who starred as Superman on “Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman,” arrived in Israel to tour the holy sites with his teenage son.

“There are few places on earth that have as much historical value [as Israel],” remarked Cain.
