A senior Israeli security official warned Tuesday that Gaza terrorists may renew their rocket fire on Israel, thus escalating the already-volatile security situation.

“There is concern over symbolic solitary rocket attacks from the Gaza Strip as an act of solidarity with the Palestinians in the West Bank [Judea and Samaria] and east Jerusalem, as we saw last weekend in Eshkol with the rocket fire carried out by the Islamic Jihad,” Israel’s Ynet quotes the official as saying.

The official added that “if Hamas could carry out attacks in Judea and Samaria, it would.”

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu convened the Security Cabinet on Tuesday to discuss ways of dealing with the escalating security situation.

There are reports that the IDF has redeployed its Iron Dome anti-rocket defense systems in the south in preparation for a possible build-up of violence.

Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon toured the site of the attack in Gush Etzion on Tuesday and stated that Israel would act resolutely to end the attacks.

“We are in the midst of an escalation, and we will act decisively to stop this wave of violence, including more widespread arrests than in the past and the demolition of the homes of terrorists,” Ya’alon said following a situation assessment. “The fate of any terrorist who raises his hand with a knife or uses a car to run people over is death.”
