Tu B’Shvat: What is a Birthday for Trees?

Why is there a separate New Year for trees rather than including it on Rosh Hashana?

Most of us think of Tu b’Shvat as the day on the Hebrew calendar for celebrating trees or nature overall.

Originally, however, this holiday was designated for the birth of the fruits and was used to calculate tithes, according to biblical law.

Why are all the trees sharing the same “birthday”? And why is there a separate New Year for trees rather than including it on Rosh Hashana?

Watch and find out! And don’t forget to celebrate with some lovely fruits from Israel! Happy Tu b’Shvat!
